The Southeastern Conference released the SEC Media Days All-SEC Team on Thursday with seniors Trey Wilson and Zac Stacy earning recognition.
Wilson was tabbed as a third team defensive back after a stellar junior campaign playing opposite of All-American Casey Hayward. Wilson set career marks in several categories – including tackles (30), interceptions (3) and pass break ups (11) – while starting all 13 games for the Commodores in 2011. The Shreveport, La. native became the first Vanderbilt player since 1974 to return two interceptions for scores in a season, picking off passes against Elon and Ole Miss for touchdowns. His two-pick performance against the Rebels netted him SEC Defensive Player of the Week in the Dores’ 30-7 victory.
Stacy’s busy preseason continued with the VU running back being selected to the second team offense. Stacy set numerous school records during his junior season, surpassing a 20-year old single season rushing record with 1,193 yards and scoring a record 14 rushing touchdowns. The Dores’ workhorse finished the season as the SEC’s third-leading rusher topping 100 yards five times, including a career-best 198 yards against Army. His game against Kentucky on Senior Day (28 carries, 135 yards, three touchdowns) earned him SEC Player of the Week and was one of three games with three scores. Stacy is on the watch list for a pair of prestigious awards in the Maxwell and Doak Walker awards and has already been named preseason All-SEC by the league’s coaches and media.
Since 1992, media representatives covering the SEC Football Media Days have voted for an All-SEC Team and predicted the order of finish in the league. An all-time high of 222 voters decided the three teams this year.
