Five ‘Dores Advance at Junior Gold

July 19, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—Five Vanderbilt Commodores made Wednesday’s big cut at the USBC’s Junior Gold Championship with sophomore Natalie Goodman continuing to lead the way in second place.

Goodman had her best day Wednesday, finishing her last three games with 206-225-237, and trails leader Kara Mangiola of Rochester, N.Y., by just 14 pins heading into Thursday’s play. Goodman has a pin total of 3,049 (+49.

Others among Vanderbilt’s large contingent that placed 82nd or higher in the field of 569 and therefore advanced to play today include newcomers Torie Ferris, who is in 21st place (-160) and Robyn Renslow, who started the week slowly but has shot up into 29th place (-186). Two other freshmen, Olivia Wirtz (65th place, -242) and Amanda Fry (69th, -245) advanced to bowl some more.

Sophomore Nicole Mosesso was not as fortunate, just missing the cut by four pins to finish 84th. Junior Liz Saffold also missed the cut.

After today’s play the field gets chopped to the top 16 for a double elimination, round-robin format Friday.
