The legendary sportswriter Fred Russell will once again be the center of attention with a special reception and book signing at Barnes & Noble at Vanderbilt Friday afternoon (June 15) from 6-8 p.m. Vanderbilt alum and former Russell-Rice Scholarship recipient Andrew Derr has just completed his authorized biography, Life of Dreams, The Good Times of Sportswriter Fred Russell. Derr will be present to sign books, make remarks and read a passage from this biography at 6 p.m. It will be a fun walk down Memory Lane so make it a point to attend! Click here for more details.

Football fans are urged to wear black when Vanderbilt opens its season on national television against South Carolina August 30. The Thursday evening game kicks at 6:00 (CDT).

Our athletic plant is a beehive of construction activity this summer. We are providing photos of the progress in upgrading Vanderbilt Stadium on this web site. McGugin Center is also getting a huge facelift with a training table (Hendrix Room) being doubled in size and new meeting and Olympic sport locker rooms on schedule to open by the start of the fall semester.

Everyone wishes former baseball assistant Josh Holliday the very best as he begins his tenure as head coach at Oklahoma State, his alma mater. Tim Corbin called Holliday “the best of the very best.” We are thrilled that Derek Johnson, our renowned pitching coach, has said “no thank you” to offers of his own and will stay on the staff.
