Recently, Vanderbilt’s basketball teams have enjoyed simultaneous success unlike ever before in the history of the two programs. Last season marked the first time in school history that Vanderbilt’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have each qualified for the NCAA Tournament over three straight seasons.
By making the Big Dance each of the last three years, Vanderbilt became one of just 10 schools nationally that can make that claim. Last year, Vanderbilt’s teams each won a game in the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time in school history. The other years were 1993, 2004 and 2007.
That unprecedented success on the floor has contributed to Vanderbilt ranking among the nation’s top schools in overall men’s and women’s basketball attendance.
Dating back to the 2007-08 season, Vanderbilt is among just eight schools that have ranked in the top 25 in men’s and women’s basketball average attendance.
Joining the Commodores are Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, New Mexico, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
In men’s basketball alone, Vanderbilt is one of 20 schools to rank in the top 25 every year during that five-year span. Vanderbilt ranked 31st in attendance in 2006-07.
In women’s basketball, the Commodores are one of 18 schools to rank in the top 25 of attendance since 2007-08, and one of 17 to do so since 2005-06. The women ranked 31st in attendance in 2004-05.
Vanderbilt finished 2012 ranked 18th in men’s basketball attendance with and average of 13,698. The Commodores were ranked 23rd in women’s basketball attendance in 2012 with an average of 4,113.
