VANDERBILT RE-VU
The Commodores used a pair of strong pitching performances and a four-run first to top Middle Tennessee State 5-1 Tuesday night. Sam Selman won his fourth straight start, fanning a career-best nine and allowing one run over 5.2 innings. Brian Miller notched his fourth save working 3.1 scoreless innings. Vanderbilt won the series with an 11-2 win over Auburn Sunday. Tony Kemp and Anthony Gomez combined for six hits, four runs and four RBI to lead eight different Commodores in the victory. The Tigers claimed an early lead and topped the Commodores 5-2 Saturday. Connor Castellano’s pinch hit, two-run homer was all for the Dores. Vanderbilt held off a late rally from Auburn to win the series opener 5-4 Friday night. Spencer Navin’s three hits and two RBI coupled with Jack Lupo’s two hits and two RBI led VU to victory.

POWER OF PITCHING
The Commodores are 4-1 over the team’s last five games entering the weekend and have the pitching staff to credit. The Dores’ hurlers have allowed 12 runs, 10 earned, on 39 hits over 45 innings (2.00 ERA) with 18 walks and 44 strikeouts. Vanderbilt’s defense has been solid over the last five games, making just four errors.

ON A ROLL
Spencer Navin enters the weekend having reached base in 17 straight games. The Commodores’ catcher has at least one hit in 14 of the 17 games, hitting .362 (21-for-58). Anthony Gomez has an nine-game hitting streak, going 19-for-41 (.463) with seven runs scored and nine RBI. Gomez has also reached base in 16 straight games.

CORBIN CLOSING IN ON 500
Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin needs just one win to reach 500 in his head coaching career. Corbin is in his 15th season as a head coach and 10th at the helm for the Commodores, where he has earned 393 of his wins. He began his head coaching career at Presbyterian College in 1988 winning 106 games for the Blue Hose.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINNING AND LOSING
In Vanderbilt’s 17 wins this season the Commodores are averaging 8.6 runs while hitting .331 with a 2.18 team ERA. In the Dores’ 20 losses, the squad is scoring an average of 3.35 runs and hitting .222 with a 6.15 team ERA.

TAKING ON THE TIDE
Vanderbilt begins the second half of SEC play with a road trip to Alabama. The Commodores return to Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2010 when the Dores narrowly escaped a sweep with a 5-4 win on Sunday. Last season Vandy swept a three-game series with the Tide, outscoring Alabama 29-9 over the weekend. Vanderbilt is 53-76-2 all-time against Alabama in a series dating back to 1893.
