NASHVILLE — The 2012 Great 8 Meet, the annual high school invitational hosted by Vanderbilt that invites the top-eight competitors in each event from Middle Tennessee to compete on West End, was completed on Tuesday, April 17.

After an early rain subsided, it turned into a pleasant evening in the high-70s, as runners from across Middle Tennessee competed in the finals-only format that had only eight competitors in each event.

Greatest of the Eights

Pate started the day by finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, one inch. She then picked up a victory in the 100 meter dash, posting a mark of 12.18 that edged Brentwood Academy’s Breanna Tate by .01 second. Pate and Tate flipped in the meet-concluding 200 meter dash. Tate took the win with a time of 25.02, while Pate finished second with a time 25.25.

On the boys’ side, Clarksville’s Jerome Henderson picked up a sweep of the sprint events to capture Most Valuable Athlete honors. He won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.08 before taking the 200 meter dash with a mark of 22.46.
