Vanderbilt (7-6, 1-4 American Lacrosse Conference) begins the final week of the regular season looking to get back on a winning track. The Commodores closed out the ALC portion of their schedule last week with a pair of defeats against ranked opponents.
Led by senior All-American Ally Carey’s 33 points, the Commodores are looking for their fifth win of the season over a ranked foe. Vanderbilt has defeated No. 5 Duke, No. 16 Stanford, No. 17 Johns Hopkins and No. 18 Boston College so far this season.
Notre Dame (10-2, 4-2 Big East) opened the season with eight straight wins, rising to No. 6 in the IWLCA poll, before dropping a pair of league matches to Loyola (Md.) and Syracuse. The Irish has since defeated Villanova and Connecticut to get back on the winning track.
Senior Maggie Tamasitis leads the Irish with 46 assists and 63 points on the season. Sophomore Lindsay Powell has scored a team-best 35 goals.
The Commodores hold an 11-5 advantage in a series with the Irish that dates back to 1997. Vanderbilt has won five consecutive regular season meetings between the two schools, including wins in South Bend in 2008 and 2010. In 2009, however, Notre Dame ended Vanderbilt’s season with a 19-13 win in the NCAA Tournament.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Commodores will return home to close out the 2012 regular season against Jacksonville. Vanderbilt’s graduating class will be honored during a pregame ceremony scheduled to begin at approximately 12:40 p.m. CT.
