NASHVILLE — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team has its match-up set for the 2012 SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament in Starkville, Miss. The Commodores earned the nine seed for the event and will face eighth-seeded LSU in the first round on Thursday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m.
The Commodores concluded the regular season 7-14, 2-9 in SEC play. They finished tied for ninth and earned the tiebreaker over South Carolina and Alabama by posting a 2-0 record against those two schools (South Carolina split against VU and Alabama, while the Crimson Tide fell to both VU and USC).
Vanderbilt and LSU met on March 4 in Baton Rouge, La. The Tigers took a 6-1 decision, with Gonzales Austin scoring the lone Commodore point. Alex DiValerio and Joe Dorn also took a doubles match, but LSU took one and two doubles to earn the point.
Head Coach Ian Duvenhage’s team will look to snap a six-match skid that has the Commodores fall to six top-20 opponents.
The winner of the Vanderbilt-LSU match will move on to the quarterfinals to face top-seeded Kentucky on Friday, April 20, at 2:00 p.m.
