The Vanderbilt Commodores look to wrap up the regular season against No. 7 Kentucky this weekend when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the Wildcats on Saturday.
No. 43 Vanderbilt enters the weekend at 7-13 (2-8 SEC), coming off of losses to Ole Miss and Mississippi State last week. They received a huge boost from their senior, Charlie Jones, who beat the No. 15 player in the country, Mississippi State’s Artem Ilyushin, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4, last Sunday.
Jones’ win on Sunday boosted him from the No. 47 player to the No. 34 player, continuing his meteoric rise in the rankings this season. Teammate Gonzales Austin joined him in the rankings as the No. 94 player, thanks to the freshman’s performance in the No. 2 spot for the Commodores.
Kentucky boasts three Top-25 players, and all six of their players are ranked by the ITA: No. 3 Eric Quigley, No. 15 Alex Musialek, No. 22 Anthony Rossi, No. 67 Tom Jomby, No. 104 Alejandro Gomez, and No. 110 Panav Jha. The Wildcats are perfect in the SEC, winning all ten of their conference matches this spring, and going 22-4 overall.
The Commodores will face off against Kentucky at 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
