VANDERBILT RE-VU
The Commodores shut out Belmont 7-0 Wednesday night to earn the team’s fourth shutout victory of the season. Sam Selman, Brian Miller and Steven Rice combined for the shutout with Selman winning his third straight game. Mississippi State rallied for a two-out run in the bottom of the ninth to top Vanderbilt 8-7 Sunday and clinch the series. Anthony Gomez and Tony Kemp combined for six hits and four runs in the loss. The Commodores rallied to beat the Bulldogs 4-3 in 12 innings and even the series Saturday. The victory was the first extra inning and road win for VU this season. Anthony Gomez produced the winning hit with a single in the 12th. Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead and held on to beat Vanderbilt 7-4 in the series opener. Tony Kemp and Anthony Gomez each had two hits in the loss.

SOLID DEFENSE
For the first time this season the Commodores have played three consecutive games without making an error, giving the squad 10 games this season without any errors. The last Vanderbilt error came in Friday’s game at Mississippi State, since then the Dores have not made an error in 34.2 innings. Vandy’s position players have not committed an error since the loss to South Carolina in 13 innings April 1.
GOING STREAKING
Spencer Navin enters tonight’s game having reached base in 13 straight games. The Commodores’ catcher has at least one hit in 11 of the 13 games, hitting .356 while scoring one run in six straight games. Anthony Gomez has five consecutive multi-hit games going 12-for-24 (.500) with four runs scored and six RBI. Gomez has also reached base in 12 straight games.
FREE RIDE WEEKEND
The Commodores’ pitching staff walked 21 batters and hit nine more on the team’s trip to Mississippi State last weekend. Vanderbilt pitchers struck out 20 batters in 28.2 innings against the Bulldogs while allowing 25 hits. The Bulldogs took advantage of the free rides with 11 of their 18 runs in the three-game series reaching base via walk or hit by pitch.
TAKING ON THE TIGERS
Vanderbilt welcomes Auburn to West End this weekend for the first time since 2010. The last time the Tigers visited Hawkins Field the Commodores took the series two games to one, winning Friday 11-6 and Sunday 3-2. Vandy swept Auburn on The Plains last season for the first time, winning all three games by a combined score of 28-10. The Dores are 51-91-1 all-time against Auburn in a series dating back to 1912. Under Head Coach Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt has won nine of 12 games against Auburn in Nashville.
1972 TEAM REUNION
Vanderbilt’s 1972 team will be recognized Saturday before the game. The team went 35-15, including a 13-5 mark in the SEC under Larry Schmittou.
