VU travels to Northwestern Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. – The 11th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team faces its second consecutive American Lacrosse Conference opponent on Friday (3 p.m. CT), traveling to take on No. 1 Northwestern at Lakeside Field.

Vanderbilt is looking to rebound from a 12-11 overtime loss to league rival Penn State on Sunday. The 5-2 Commodores have already captured a pair of road victories this season, winning at No. 16 Stanford and Canisius.

Senior All-American Ally Carey paces the Commodores in scoring with 15 goals. She currently ranks fifth all-time at Vanderbilt with 179 career points. Junior Katie Mastropieri is second on the team with 12 goals.

Northwestern (7-0) is closing out a four-game home stand this weekend. The Wildcats are led by 2011 Tewaaraton Award winner Shannon Smith, who was scored 24 goals in seven games. Northwestern’s defense is allowing an average of 6.14 goals per game and has not given up 10 goals in a game all season.
