Game 1 – #7 Vanderbilt 60, #10 Middle Tennessee 46

VANDERBILT
Vanderbilt is 15-1 in NCAA play in Memorial Gym, reached the NCAA Tournament for the 25th time, and 13th in a row. This is the first year Vanderbilt has played an NCAA Tournament game in Nashville since 2006.
Vanderbilt is now 38-24 in the NCAA Tournament all-time and has won at least game in each tournament during 12 of the last 13 appearances.
Vanderbilt is now 18-1 at home during the 2011-2012 season and 11-0 at home against non-conference opponents. This was the second consecutive season that Vanderbilt ran the table during the non-conference season at home.
Center Stephanie Holzer recorded 3 blocks, which tied a season-high (7 times, last versus Florida on 2/16/12.
Guard Elan Brown recorded 12 points, tied for her second highest output of the season (season high is 13, 12/2/11 versus Denver).
Guard Jasmine Lister set career highs for both free throws made (11) and free throws attempted (14).

MIDDLE TENNESSEE
MTSU leads the all-time series against Vanderbilt 10-8, but has dropped the last four meetings and seven of the last eight. The last meeting was on 1/30/92 season and saw Vanderbilt win 90-61 in Memorial Gym.

Vanderbilt won the opening tip and led 25-18 at halftime. Vanderbilt is 22-0 this season when leading at the intermission. The 18 first half points by MTSU were the fewest by a Vanderbilt opponent in an NCAA Tournament game since 3/21/09 (18, Western Carolina), and the fewest by any Vanderbilt opponent since 1/12/12 (13, Auburn). MTSU’s 18 first half points were the fewest by the school in an NCAA Tournament game.

MTSU was playing in its 15th NCAA Tournament and sixth during the seven-year coaching tenure of Rick Insell, and eighth time in the last nine years. MTSU received an at-large bid for the second straight year and third time in program history. MTSU is now 5-15 all-time in NCAA play.

MTSU is now 1-3 against SEC opponents during the 2011-2012 season, falling at Tennessee, at home against Arkansas, and to Vanderbilt today. MTSU’s lone regular season SEC win came against eventual SEC Champion Kentucky. MTSU is now 28-74 all-time against SEC foes.

MTSU’s 46 total points tied for the team’s second lowest output of the season (11/20/11 at James Madison). Their lowest point total this season is 43 (11/29/11 at Tennessee).

MTSU’s 25 offensive rebounds are the most given up this year by Vanderbilt. The previous high was 22 (2/20/12 at Kentucky, 2/18/12 versus Ole Miss). Total rebounds were MTSU: 41, Vanderbilt: 39. MTSU is now 12-3 when out-rebounding opponent this season. Vanderbilt is 3-8 when getting out-rebounded.

Forward Icelyn Elie tied her career high with 16 rebounds (2 times, last 2/12/12 versus UALR).
