NASHVILLE – Senior All-American Ally Carey has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her contributions to a pair of Commodores victories over Boston College and Canisius.
Carey helped No. 7/6 Vanderbilt rally from a two-goal deficit to capture a two-goal victory on the road, scoring three of VU’s final four goals in the 10-8 win at Canisius. Carey led the Commodores with five offensive points, connecting on 4-of-4 free-position shots, and three draw controls. She also added three ground balls.
Earlier in the week, Carey led all players with six draw controls in a win over No. 18 Boston College, including the game’s final one as the Eagles had pulled within one with five minutes to play. Already the school’s all-time leader in the statistic, Carey now has more than 200 draw controls in her career. She currently ranks 11th in the nation in draw controls this season.
This marks the fourth time that Carey has earned a weekly honor from the American Lacrosse Conference. In March of 2010, Carey opened the month with a Defensive Player of the Week honor before earning Offesnive Player of the Week just three weeks later. She earned one Rookie of the Week honor during the 2009 season.
In other league news, Florida’s Mikey Meagher was named Defensive Player of the Week and Johns Hopkins’ KCâ€Ë†Emerson was named the Rookie of the Week.
Meagher made 17 saves and allowed 10 goals for a .630 save percentage in 90 minutes in goal this week. Emerson made her first start for the Blue Jays and stopped six shots while allowing just four goals as Hopkins beat 19th-ranked Towson, 5-4, at Homewood Wednesday night.
