VANDERBILT RE-VU
A six-run third inning was too much to overcome for the Commodores in Sunday’s 9-7 loss to San Diego. Vince Conde hit his first collegiate home run and Conrad Gregor drove in two runs in the loss. San Diego edged Vanderbilt 2-1 in a pitchers’ duel Saturday. The Dores mounted a ninth inning, two-out rally that ended with the bases loaded. The Commodores blanked San Diego 7-0 in the series opener behind Kevin Ziomek’s strong eight-inning outing. The lefty fanned eight to earn his second win of the season. Vanderbilt’s ninth inning rally fell short Tuesday night at Belmont with a 6-5 loss to the Bruins. A fourth inning grand slam by the Bruins sunk the Commodores in the team’s first loss to Belmont since 2009. Anthony Gomez had two hits and Tony Kemp had two RBI in the loss.

JUNIOR HIT MEN
Juniors Mike Yastrzemski and Anthony Gomez have led the Vanderbilt offense early in the season. The two have combined for 14 of the team’s 31 multi-hit games and boast the top two batting averages on the squad (Yastrzemski .377, Gomez .362). Yastrzemski has posted three straight multi-hit games (7-for-12) and Gomez has three in his last four games (7-for-18). Gomez tied for the team lead a year ago matching Jason Esposito and Aaron Westlake with 30 multi-hit games. Yastrzemski has almost half as many multi-hit games already this season as he did as a sophomore last season (15). The duo has provided a big portion of the offense this season combining to hit .369 (41-for-111) with 24 RBI and 23 runs scored. Subtract their production and the team batting average slips from .260 to .228 and the club’s runs per game falls from 5.7 to 4.2.

NICE BULL(PEN)
The Commodores’ bullpen posted a nice weekend against San Diego. Five pitchers combined to allow only two runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts over 12 innings.

FIRST TIME SAINTS
The Commodores and Saints play for the first time this week. Siena is the third opponent this season that Vanderbilt has never played joining Rhode Island and Louisiana Tech. This week also marks the one and only time this season the Dores play two midweek games.
