The No. 43 Vanderbilt Commodores are set to host the No. 37 Memphis Tigers and the UAB Blazers this weekend.
Vanderbilt, who improved to 4-3 last weekend after victories over both Brown and Northwestern, looks to continue their two-game winning streak in the last weekend of non-conference play.
An undefeated Memphis comes in on Friday at 2 p.m. CT with a 5-0 duals record, including a 4-3 victory over Vanderbilt’s SEC rival, Tennessee. The experienced team has eight upperclassmen, which will provide a challenge for the still-young Vanderbilt squad.
Memphis’s David O’Hare comes in as the No. 114 ranked player. Previously, O’Hare was ranked at No. 50, and he and his doubles partner Joe Salisbury were ranked No. 47 in doubles. They are now unranked.
The Commodores take on the unranked Blazers, who started their season with a 5-1 effort, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Dores have shown tenacity and focus on the courts so far this spring, as freshmen Gonzales Austin and Jeff Offerdahl have stepped up to the challenge. Classmate Anton Kovrigin showed off his intensity in last weekend’s matches as he contributed two singles victories to the overall effort.
Senior Charlie Jones has remained a rock for the Dores. Ranked as the No. 66 player in the nation by the ITA in the pre-season release. He heads into the weekend matches with a 6-1 spring singles record.
