Don’t tell Coach James Franklin what this program can’t do.
“Ever since we got here, people have been telling us what we can’t do,” said Franklin in front of a rowdy crowd Wednesday night at the celebration of the program’s most successful signing day yet. “Even now, there are people who are just waiting for something to go wrong. Let it go.”
All season long, the charismatic head coach has wanted to focus on the new Vanderbilt, and on National Signing Day, a crowd came out to hear all about the newest additions to the growing program.
“This is not the same old Vanderbilt,” he said, with a highlight reel rolling in the background. “We went out and fought for this class and fought for our fans. The guys that we got are the guys that we want. We’ve got a great class.”
Like a proud papa, Franklin was visibly excited about his new class of 21 recruits–most notably as the highlights ran of Brian Kimbrow, and the head coach fell silent watching the film.
“Sometimes, you just like watching them play,” said Joe Fisher, who, with Franklin, spoke about each player’s athletic talents before growing quiet again, watching yet another promising signee duck and weave his way across his high school’s field.
Welcome to the new era of Vanderbilt football, recruits. Anchor down.
