The Vanderbilt Commodores dropped two places in the latest ITA Rankings, from the No. 15 to the No. 17 ranked team in the nation, after suffering their first loss to the No. 12 Northwestern Wildcats last weekend.
It was the lone loss of the season for the team, as the women won their first five matches in a row, including four home matches and a road match against DePaul.
The team boast three ranked individuals from the January 3 poll, including No. 23 Jackie Wu, No. 69 Lauren Mira, and No. 110 Marie Casares. Mira won her match in straight sets at Northwestern against Veronica Corning.
The Commodores, who began the season up one spot at No. 15 after finishing last year as the No. 16 team, face a tough slate this coming weekend, as three ranked opponents come to town. No. 15 Texas, No. 23 Alabama, and No. 30 Arizona will play in the ITA Kick-Off event hosted at Currey Tennis Center Saturday and Sunday.
