Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores will open the 2012 season ranked 10th in the nation by Baseball America.
After a stellar 2011 campaign that ended in the team’s first-ever trip to Omaha and a share of the Southeastern Conference championship, the Commodores return six starters to the lineup including SEC Freshman of the Year Tony Kemp. The Dores also added the nation’s top recruiting class according to Baseball America.
Vanderbilt opens the season February 17 at No. 2 Stanford and will play seven teams in the preseason poll’s Top 25. The Commodores are one of six SEC teams in the top 11 joined by No. 1 Florida, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 8 LSU and No. 11 Georgia. Ole Miss is ranked 22nd to give the SEC seven teams in the poll. The Dores will also play No. 24 Louisville at Hawkins Field May 8. VU opens up at home against Oakland February 22 before hosting Oregon in the team’s first home weekend February 24-26.
