RADFORD, Va. – Vanderbilt men’s golfer Adam Hofmann finished his final day at the NCAA East Regional in Radford, Va., with a 75 to wrap up play for the weekend. The redshirt junior from Pittsburgh, Pa., ended the tournament with an eight-over par, 224, which tied him for 28th place.
Hofmann’s round began with a four-stroke penalty after having too many clubs in his bag. The penalty was assessed on his first and second holes of the round, which were number 10 and 11, respectively.
“Hof mistakenly had an extra club in his bag, and he and I didn’t notice it until the second hole,” said Vanderbilt head coach Tom Shaw. “But, he responded and played beautifully after that, finishing the last 17 holes at one-under par.”
Vanderbilt’s lone representative was selected as an individual competitor at the Regional Championship after leading the Commodores with a 73.3 stroke average this season.
Hofmann made birdie on the par-three 14th and the par-four sixth. His only bogey of the day came at the par five 11th. “This was a good experience for Adam,” said Shaw. “He played well this week, but just couldn’t get the putts to drop. He’ll use this experience to be a better golfer next season.”
Duke, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, LSU, and Kent State advanced to the national championships at Oklahoma State in early June. Coastal Carolina’s Sebastian Soderberg advanced as the individual player.
