Vanderbilt – Tennessee Post-game Notes

Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt is in its 122nd year of organized football.
– The Commodores wore white pants, white jerseys and gold helmets.
– Tennessee won the toss and deferred to the second half and the Commodores elected to receive.
– The attendance was 91,367.
Team Notes
– Vanderbilt falls to 5-6 on the season and stands at 2-6 in conference play.
– The Commodores 28-74-5 against Tennessee all-time.
– Vanderbilt 1-4 when allowing the opponent to score first.
– For just the second time this season Vandy trailed after the first quarter, trailing Tennessee 7-0.
– VU 0-5 when trailing at halftime.
– The overtime game was the first for Vanderbilt this season and the first since losing at Army 16-13 in 2009. Tennessee won the toss and elected to play defense first.
Individual Notes
– Archibald Barnes’ interception in the second quarter was the first of his career.
– Zac Stacy’s first quarter touchdown was his 10th rushing TD of the season. Stacy becomes the first Dore to record 10-plus scores in a season since Jamie O’Rourke in 1974. Stacy’s 6-yard score also put him in front of O’Rourke for the fourth-most all-time in a single season. Stacy now has 952 yards this season.
– Jerron Seymour had his best game as a Commodore since the UConn game rushing for 23 yards.
– Archibald Barnes’ second interception of the night was returned for a touchdown, the longest return in school history. Barnes second pick of the year makes him the third Commodore this season to intercept two passes in a game joining Casey Hayward (South Carolina) and Trey Wilson (Ole Miss). Barnes return for a score is the first since Wilson’s pick six against Ole Miss.
– Jordan Rodgers’ fourth quarter TD pass to Chris Boyd marked the fifth straight game Rodgers had passed for a score and the third consecutive game Boyd caught a TD pass. Rodgers five straight games with a TD pass makes him the first Commodore since Chris Nickson early in the 2006 season to accomplish the feat.
– Chris Boyd’s TD reception gave him seven for the season, the most since Earl Bennett scored nine in 2005.
– Chris Boyd’s six receptions set a career-high.
– Javon Marshall matched a career-best with six tackles.
– For the second straight game since returning from injury T.J. Greenstone recorded a sack.
– Jordan Rodgers’ 32 pass attempts set a caereer-high.
Defense
– Archibald Barnes’ interception was the Commodores’ first pick since the Georgia game. The interception was the 16th for the Dores this season matching the 11th-most in school history and most since 2007.
– Vanderbilt has outscored its opponents 141-109 in the first half this season.
– Vandy’s two interceptions marked the first time since the South Carolina game that the defense picked off two-plus passes. VU intercepted four Gamecock passes in that game.
Offense
– The Commodores’ two turnovers in the first quarter were the most by the team since the Arkansas game when VU turned it over three times.
– Vanderbilt’s fourth-down conversion in the first quarter was the team’s 13th of the season. VU entered the game second in the SEC in fourth down conversion percentage behind only LSU.
– At the half, VU outgained UT 175-126.
Special Teams
– Richard Kent’s 64-yard punt in the second quarter was his longest boot since the Ole Miss game when he kicked it 64 yards against the Rebels.
– With the Commodores’ two missed field goals in the first half VU is 2-for-8 in the last seven games, including 1-for-5 in the last four games.
– Richard Kent’s 60-yard punt in the fourth quarter gave him two 60-yard punts on the day.
