Postgame Notes:

  • Kevin Stallings is now 361-212 in his career, and 238-149 with the Commodores.
  • This is the first meeting between Vanderbilt and Bucknell, but Kevin Stallings improved to 2-0 against the Bison in his coaching career.
  • Vanderbilt improved to 2-1 on the season and is now 106-9 against non-conference opponents at home during the Kevin Stallings era.
  • Five players scored in double-figures for Vanderbilt (Taylor 14, Tinsley 12, Goulbourne 12, Johnson 12, Odom 10) for the first time since January 19 of last season against Ole Miss.
  • The Commodores only recorded five turnovers in the win, tying the lowest total by Vanderbilt in the 2010-11 season. VU gave the ball away only five times against Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament on March 11, 2011.
  • With his three-pointer at the 12:44 mark in the first half, Jeffery Taylor extended Vandy’s streak to 798 straight games with a three-pointer.

Second Half Notes:

  • The Commodores opened the half with an 8-2 run, concluding with a fastbreak layup by Jeffery Taylor with 17:42 on the clock to give VU a 35-28 lead.
  • Vandy used a 12-2 run from 16:19 to 14:04 to take a 47-34 lead on Taylor’s second three-pointer of the game.
  • VU extended its lead to as many as 21, taking a 76-55 lead on a Dai-Jon Parker three-pointer with 2:32 to play in the contest.

First Half Notes:

  • Vandy won the opening tip for the third straight time; the Dores are now 2-1 when winning the tip this season.
  • Jeffery Taylor assisted on a Lance Goulbourne layup to give Vandy the first basket of the game. The Commodores are now 2-0 when scoring first this season.
  • The Bison used a 7-0 run early in the period to take a 7-4 lead over Vanderbilt just 3:20 into the frame.
  • Vanderbilt was held without a field goal for 5:59 before Kedren Johnson hit a jumper to tie the game at 16-16 with 6:47 remaining in the half.
  • The Commodores went on a 6-2 run over the final 2:46 of the period to take a 27-26 lead into the break.
  • VU only shot 34.3% (12-35) from the field and 13.3% from beyond the arc (2-15), while Bucknell shot 45% (9-20) overall 50% (1-2) from the three-point line.
  • Vanderbilt tallied eight offensive rebounds, while denying the Bison a single offensive board.

Individual Notes:

  • Jeffery Taylor led five Commodores in double-figures, scoring 14 points and adding six rebounds. It marked the 74th time Taylor tallied double digit points in his career.
  • Lance Goulbourne added 12 points and nine rebounds. Brad Tinsley and Kedren Johnson also tallied 12 points (career high), while Rod Odom finished the game with 10 points.
  • Freshman Shelby Moats saw the first action of his career, recording two assists and one rebound in 13 minutes.
  • Freshmen Dai-Jon Parker and James Siakam scored both scored the first career collegiate points. Parker finished with seven points, while Siakam went 1-2 from the free throw line.
  • Junior Jordan Smart saw action for the first time this season.
  • Steve Tchiengang recorded his first three-pointer of the season, giving him 40 from beyond the arc in his career.
  • Josh Henderson recorded the first assist of his career, and added three more to lead the Commodores with four helpers in the win.
