Stewart in 2nd at Hummingbird

CASHIERS, N.C. – Vanderbilt freshman Hunter Stewart shot an opening-round, three-under par, 68, in the opening round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Cashiers and is in a tie for second, N.C. Stewart trails the individual leader, Kristopher Gray of Gardner-Webb, by one stroke, heading into the final round on Tuesday.

5754342.jpegStewart led the Vanderbilt contingent at the par-71, 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley on Monday. The team is in a tie for fourth with Francis Marion and Wofford College after firing a seven-over par, 291. Gardner-Webb leads the tournament with a two-under par, 282.

Vanderbilt counted a one-over par, 72, from sophomore Charlie Ewing, a four-over par, 75, from freshman Ben Fogler, and a five-over par, 76, from senior Trey DelGreco. Senior Adam Hofmann shot a first-round, 79, in his opening roiund at Sapphire Valley.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will conclude on Tuesday.
