Vanderbilt – Army Postgame Notes

Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt is in its 122nd year of organized football.
– The Commodores wore black pants with black tops and black helmets.
– Vanderbilt won the toss and elected to receive.
– The attendance was 32,210.
– Prior to the game SSG Jared Gough and SGT Matthew Thode of the 101st Airborne parachuted in the game ball.
– Major General James C. McConville, commanding officer of the 101st Airborne and Fort Campbell, was the ceremonial coin tosser.

Team Notes
– The Commodores move to 4-3 (1-3) on the year.
– Vanderbilt is now 5-4 against Army all-time.
– With a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter VU has now outscored opponents 37-17 in the first quarter this year.

Individual Notes
Jordan Rodgers earned his first career start at Vanderbilt.
Andrew Bridges started at left tackle for his first career start. Bridges becomes the 10th first-time starter this season.
Chris Boyd’s 43-yard touchdown reception was a career-long reception.
Tim Fugger’s fumble recovery made him the first Commodore this year to force and recover a fumble this season.
Archibald Barnes notched his first career sack with stop on third down in the second quarter.
Zac Stacy moved into 20th place on the all-time rushing yards list with a new career-best 198 yards on the night giving him 1,388 yards for his career passing Warren Norman, Jay Cutler, Jared Hawkins, Terry Porter, Steve Burger and Herb Rich. His 198 yards marked his second 100-yard game this year and his first since a previous career-high 169 yards against Ole Miss. Stacy’s 198 yards is the third-most in a single game in Vanderbilt history and his three touchdowns are the most by a Commodore since Cassen Jackson-Garrison scored three times against Ole Miss in 2007.
Jordan Rodgers scored his first rushing touchdown on a 12-yard run to cap an 83-yard drive in the second quarter. Rodgers finished with a career-best 96 yards.
Carey Spear connected on a career-long 37-yard field goal at the end of the first half.
Rob Lohr added to his team-leading total with two tackles for loss ending the night with a career-high seven tackles. Lohr also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Jordan Rodgers set a career-high with 116 yards passing in the first half, finishing the night with 186 yards through the air to set a VU season-best.
Chris Marve moved into 11th place all-time with 11 tackles on the night to bring his career total to 363.
Jerron Seymour’s 5-yard TD scamper in the third quarter was his fourth touchdown of the year. He has scored in two straight games.
Chris Boyd set career marks with 90 yards and four receptions.
Johnell Thomas recorded a career-high six tackles, including one for loss.

Defense
– The defense forced its 19th turnover with a fumble recovery by Tim Fugger in the first quarter, the team’s third fumble recovery of the year.
– The Commodores forced three turnovers on the night winning the turnover battle 3-2.
– For the fourth straight game the defense held the opponent under their season rushing average holding the Black Knights to 270 yards on the ground. Army entered the game averaging 361 yards rushing per game.
– Vanderbilt held Army to 1-of-6 passing for 18 yards marking the first time since 2009 against Western Carolina that an opponent did not pass for 100 yards. The defense also held the Black Knights to 4-of-12 on third down.

Offense
– For the first time this season the Commodores took their opening drive down to score with a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Zac Stacy.
– The Commodores’ touchdowns on the team’s first two drives marks the first time since the Arkansas game last year that Vanderbilt scored on the first two drives.
– The Commodores’ 23 first half points is the most this season topping the previous high of 21 from the Elon and Ole Miss games.
– VU’s 264 yards in the first half set a season-high eclipsing the previous high of 172 against Ole Miss.
– For the third time this season the Commodores ran for 200-plus yards ending the night with a season-best 344 yards on the ground.
– Vanderbilt set a season-best with 23 first downs.
– The offense churned out a season-high 530 yards recording 500+ yards of offense for the first tine since the Eastern Michigan game last year.
– The Dores won the time of possession battle against the No. 1 running team in the nation holding onto the ball for 34:15.
– Vanderbilt converted a season-best eight third downs going 8-for-14 on the night.
– For the first time this season the Commodores did not allow a sack.Special Teams
Andre Hal took the opening kickoff 53 yards into Army territory to start the game.
