Wondering about a player, a game or another topic involving the Commodores? The Voice of the Commodores Joe Fisher will answer a variety of questions from fans during the season on VUcommodores.com.

In 2007, Georgia narrowly beat Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt Stadium. The Bulldogs celebrated on the Star-V mid-field logo. In sports, that is the ultimate sign of disrespect. Do you think Coach James Franklin will use that slap in the face to motivate the ‘Dores this Saturday? It sure made me mad.
– John Fisher, McEwen, Tenn.

No, there won’t be any chance of anything like that being mentioned. Coach Franklin has been very focused on dealing with the here and now in the team’s approach to each game, so I don’t see any use of past events as part of a pregame motivational talk. That’s certainly not to say it couldn’t happen in the future, but in this case it’s not an issue.

I was wondering about Vandy’s uniforms. They have worn black, white, but no gold. Who decides what uniform’s they will where. Do you think they will wear gold jerseys or slacks any this year?
– Gary Anderson, Afghanistan

Decisions on uniforms and helmets are made during the week I’m sure there is some input at times from the Leadership Council, but Coach Franklin has the final say. Yes, there is a gold option to the uniforms as well.

Frank Mordica had 321 yards vs. Air Force in 1978. There may never be another ‘Dore with that type of game again. His numbers at Vanderbilt are good, so how come he is not in the Vanderbilt Sports Hall of Fame? He should be there.
– Jerry, Columbia, Tenn.

Frank certainly had a spectacular career and is Vanderbilt’s all-time career rushing leader as well as holding that spectacular single-game record. He is one of a large number of former Commodore athletes worthy of consideration. It is a daunting task the Hall of Fame Committee goes through each year in deciding on the new class of inductees. You can submit your own nomination to the committee (nominations will open later this year). Many folks may not realize it takes a unanimous vote from the entire Hall of Fame Committee for a candidate to be selected for induction.
