Conference expansion: What to believe? Speculation continues to run rampant concerning the next steps in conference realignment. Sources from the Birmingham News reported Tuesday afternoon that the SEC had reached an informal agreement with Missouri to join the conference. The SEC quickly denied the rumors with the following statement: “The Southeastern Conference has not agreed, formally or informally, to accept any institution other than Texas A&M and there have not been conference discussions regarding changes in divisional alignments.”
Also late last night, Pac 12 commissioner Larry Scott said his conference will not expand beyond its 12 members, meaning Texas and Oklahoma will remain in the Big 12 for now.
Littlest Vanderbilt player makes big impression. Jerron Seymour, listed at 5’7 at 190 pounds, doesn’t mind it when people discount his ability based on size. Instead, the freshman tailback sees it as an advantage. “Most people see it as a disadvantage, being very small and not being able to break a lot of tackles, but I use it as a big advantage running and hiding behind those big linemen,” Seymour said. “Most defenders can’t see where I’m at and which hole I’m going to come out.”
Baseball recruiting class ranked No. 2. The Commodores incoming recruiting class, comprised of one junior college transfer and 12 freshmen, was rated No. 2 in the country by Collegiate Baseball. Last week, Head Coach Tim Corbin commented on each recruit in VUcommodores’ “Five Things” series. Also, Jerome Boettcher of the Nashville City Paper talked with pitcher Tyler Beede about his decision to attend Vanderbilt rather than signing with the Blue Jays for 2.4 million.
Forde Dash on the Dores. ESPN.com’s Pat Forde mentioned the Commodore football team a couple of times in his weekly “Forde Dash” column. Forde gives Head Coach James Franklin points for improving the program, but then picks the Dores to lose to South Carolina in Columbia.
