On Deck: Vanderbilt baseball’s Road to Omaha DVD is for $29.95… The Commodore soccer team has a big non-conference matchup with No. 11 Memphis Thursday night. Youth wearing soccer jerseys receive free admission… VU will hold a canned food drive in support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee at the VU-Memphis soccer match as well as Saturday’s football game against Ole Miss… PGA star Brandt Snedeker will be appearing on the Golf Channel’s PGA TOUR Playoff Diary Wednesday night at 8 p.m. CT… The football road game at South Carolina on September 24 will start at 6 p.m. CT on either ESPN or ESPN2 (TBA).

Commodores labeled ‘Ultimate Underdog’ in Sports Illustrated
Pick up a copy of Sports Illustrated this week to read Michael Rosenberg’s four-page feature on Vanderbilt’s football program under first-year Head Coach James Franklin. Rosenberg spent three days on campus during the preseason chronicling the Commodores’ challenge to compete in the toughest conference in college football.
Opportunity of a lifetime
Andrew Kittrell, an 11-year old local youth football player, was born without a left leg and is missing fingers on both hands. After hearing about Kittrell’s story, Coach Franklin decided to give him the experience of a lifetime during the UConn game last week. It was an experience Kittrell describes as the best day of his life. Powerful and touching… a must read.
Goulbourne has fond tennis memories
Senior forward Lance Goulbourne was glued to the television during the U.S. Open men’s tennis final. Goulbourne, a Brooklyn native, lettered in the sport in high school and even served as a ball boy for five years at the U.S. Open.
No longer the same old Vanderbilt
