Athletes for America Photo Gallery
Vanderbilt student-athletes, along with Tennessee State athletes and former NFL players, participated in an Athletes For America event on Saturday morning at Memorial Gym, where they became certified in CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.
The athletes, and the general public who attended, were trained under the guidance of the Vanderbilt Resuscitation Center and support from Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Medical Center, Vanderbilt Sports Medicine, Nashville American Heart Association, Nashville Fire Department, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Five Vanderbilt teams were there for the training – members of the women’s basketball, lacrosse, swimming and diving, bowling, baseball, and cheerleading each walked away with their official certification.
ATHLETES FOR AMERICA (AFA) was founded in September 2001 by former collegiate and professional athlete, Billy McGehee. AFA’s Mission; to educate, train and certify America’s Athletes in life saving techniques then enroll them into what will become the largest Civilian emergency preparedness network in the American history.
