Stewart, Hofmann at U.S. Amateur

Two Vanderbilt men’s golfers finished their first round of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills, with incoming freshman Hunter Stewart firing an even-par, 70, and rising senior Adam Hofmann shooting a six-over par, 76.

Stewart, from Lexington, Ky., is tied for 62nd after his 70 at the Blue Mound Country Club on Monday with four birdies, 10 pars, and four bogeys in his round. Hofmann, who also played his opening round at Blue Mound, shot a 76 with a birdie, 10 pars, and seven bogeys, and is in a tie for 254th. Both players teed off of the number 10 tee on Monday.

Both Stewart and Hofmann will take on Erin Hills, the host course for the finals of the U.S. Amateur, on Tuesday in the last round of stroke play. The top 64 stroke-play players, after playing a round each at Blue Mound and Erin Hills, will advance to match play, which begins on Wednesday.
