John Jenkins scored 15 points in Team USA’s 86-83 win over Germany in the fifth-place game at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. The junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., was 4-of-12 from the field, 3-of-9 from three, and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in the win.
Trailing by one point at halftime, 41-40, the USA outscored its opponent 28-12 in the points-in-the-paint category and grabbed 19 boards to Germany’s 8 in the second half to help the Americans hold onto a
hard-fought win that was decided in the final minutes.
Trevor Mbakwe of Minnesota led the team with 21 points and eight rebounds.
