Stewart qualifies for U.S. Amateur

Aug. 9, 2011

Vanderbilt incoming freshman golfer Hunter Stewart qualified for the U.S. Amateur after finishing second at the Peninsula Golf Club qualifier with a total of 134 (64-70).

Stewart is the second Vanderbilt men’s golfer to qualify for this year’s Amateur, which takes place at Erin Hills in Erin Hills, Wisc., August 22-28 – rising senior Adam Hofmann tied for medalist honors with a two-round total of 138 at the Cincinnati qualifier on August 2nd.

The U.S. Amateur Championship tees off on August 22. Players will compete in two days of stroke play before the field is reduced to the lowest 64 scorers, who will compete in 18-hole match play. The event culminates with a 36-hole championship match scheduled for Sunday, August 28.

Erin Hills, which was awarded the 2017 U.S. Open last summer, is a links-style championship course designed by Mike Hurdzan and Dana Fry of Hurdzan-Fry Architects, and Ron Whitten, Architecture Editor of Golf Digest magazine. Golf Magazine named Erin Hills its Best New Golf Course in January 2007. The course recently underwent a major renovation that was overseen by the original architects.
