Vanderbilt senior Marina Alex (Wayne, N.J.) and junior Lauren Stratton (Spring Hill, Tenn.) each finished the two rounds of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur with a one-over par, 143, which placed them in a tie for 18th and allowed the duo to advance to match play on Wednesday at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I. The pair advances to the round of 64 on Wednesday.
Alex will be the #20 seed on Wednesday, and she will face #45 seed Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J., at 9:50 a.m. CT, while Stratton comes in as the #22 seed and will face the #43 seed Lindy Duncan at 1:10 p.m. CT. Match play will determine the U.S. Amateur champion, with second and third round matches coming on Thursday, the quarterfinals on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday, and the 36-hole final on Sunday.
Stratton fired a two-over par, 73, in the early morning wave, while Alex teed off in the afternoon and shot a one-over, 71.
