Jerome Boettcher of The City Paper previews the Vanderbilt football team heading into preseason camp.
The Commodores start arriving on campus Wednesday with practice scheduled to begin Friday. Fans will have the opportunity to watch the team’s morning practice on Saturday, August 13.
Cornerback Casey Hayward wants an interception every time the ball is thrown his way. Also, ESPN.com’s Edward Aschoff caught up with Hayward at SEC Media Day on July 22.
AthlonSports.com ranks the top 40 players in the SEC. Two Commodores are listed- Hayward at No. 27 and Chris Marve at No. 32.
Tim Corbin reflects on the Commodores’ historic run to Omaha. “We finished third in the country with no (negative) incidents,” Corbin pointed out. “We finished third in the country with over a 3.0 grade point average. We finished third in the country with a group of kids who will stay friends forever.”
Interim head coach Derek Greene is ready to lead Vanderbilt’s soccer program. When asked about the type of play fans can expect to see, Greene said, “I want us to be relentless in our work-rate for 90 minutes. I don’t want us to ever stop working hard. We’re going to attack like this program hasn’t attacked in years. If you want to move forward in life, you have to be aggressive. I want opponents to hate playing against us.”
Tampa Bay’s David Price turned in a quality performance but didn’t get enough run support as the Rays fell to Toronto, 3-1. Tampa Bay has scored only one run in Price’s last three starts.
Jonathan Goff is ready to build off his 2010 season with the New York Giants.

Song of the Day
My wife and I watched the movie Blue Valentine starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams last night. Williams received an Oscar nomination for her performance, but the film didn’t get a nod for Best Picture (yet The Social Network and The King’s Speech did).
This song by Penny and The Quarters is on the soundtrack:
