Marina Alex and Lauren Stratton combined to shoot a 12-under par, 60, in best-ball competition to vault into a tie for the lead with a cumulative score of 11-under par after the second day of the 2nd Annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship at Achasta, By Reynolds. Anna Leigh Keith and Rene Sobolewski are also competing, and currently stand at even par for the tournament after posting a one-under par, 71, on Wednesday.
Alex and Stratton posted the day’s best round by four shots, and combined, the two combined for 12 birdies. Alex had nine of those, including consecutive birdies on seven and eight, 10 and 11, 13 and 14, and 17 and 18. Stratton posted her birdies on four, six, and 15. The duo is tied for the tournament lead with Elizabeth Brightwell and Portland Rosen of Virginia and Caroline Powers and Lindsey Solberg of Michigan State.
Alex’s nine birdies were the most by any player on Wednesday.
Keith and Sobolewski are tied for 20th at even par.
The third and final day of the tournament is Thursday, when the format moves to team stroke play. Both players’ scores will count in the final round.
