Earnest Now Third at Junior Gold

July 13, 2011

LAS VEGAS, NV—Vanderbilt’s Jessica Earnest moved up a notch on the leaderboard at the prestigious Junior Gold tournament and is in third place after two days and 12 games of bowling.

The Vandalia, Il., junior crafted a total of 1,257 (+57) on a Tuesday when most scores were lower than the first day of competition. Her 215.42 total trails leader Holly Harris, who is at 220.58 heading into six more games Wednesday.

One of the bigger moves Tuesday came from incoming Commodore freshman Nicole Mosesso, who jumped into 32nd place in this field of nearly 600 young women. The Centerville, Ohio product carries a 197.50 average into today. Her move is significant as the giant field gets chopped to the top 64 bowlers after today’s rounds.

Other Vanderbilt bowlers in action include incoming freshman Nicole Chanin of Sparta, N.J., who is easily among the top 25% with her 188.83 average but at 120th place has her work cut out to qualify to Thursday’s semi-finals.

Vanderbilt junior Kim Carper is close behind (188 average) with classmate Lauren Rhein averaging 173.67 and freshmen Rebeca Reguero (175.25) and Liz Saffold (165.50) also competing.
