HIGH POINT, N.C. – Former Commodore Merideth Marsh has been hired as an assistant coach for the High Point University women’s basketball team, head coach Jennifer Hoover announced on Tuesday. Marsh graduated from Vanderbilt in 2010 before playing professionally in Spain last season.

“I am absolutely thrilled to add Merideth to our staff and Panther family,” Hoover said. “She was an unbelievable player in the SEC and one of the toughest guards I have seen. She has a very sharp basketball mind and has played for great coaches. Her ability to breakdown the fundamentals of the game will be a great asset to us in the overall development of our players. Her competitiveness and drive on the court will carry over into her ability to attract and recruit quality student-athletes to our women’s basketball program. We look forward to Merideth bringing her winning pedigree to HPU.”

Marsh played professionally during the 2010-11 season in Spain with Carmelitas Vedruna. She appeared in 25 games and averaged 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

“I am very excited to be a part of HPU women’s basketball,” Marsh said. “Meeting Coach Hoover made this decision very easy for me. To have an opportunity like this at a school like High Point is huge. I am looking forward to working with Coach Hoover as well as Coach Nicholls and Coach Hendrix. This is a program that knows how to win and I can’t wait to help bring it to the next level.”

Marsh was a three-year starter at Vanderbilt and was named second-team All-SEC as both a junior and senior. She scored 1,332 points in her collegiate career including a team-best average of 15.1 points per game as a senior. Marsh helped Vanderbilt reach back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2008 and 2009. In the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Marsh scored a team-high 26 points, including nine in overtime to lead the Commodores to a win over DePaul.

Prior to her time at Vanderbilt, Marsh was a four-year starter at the Christian Academy in Louisville, Ky., where she averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game for her career. She broke the school’s scoring record with 1,964 career points and was an honorable-mention McDonald’s All-American.

Marsh earned her bachelor’s degree in child studies with a minor in HOD (Human and Organizational Development).

Marsh is the second former Commodore women’s basketbal player to be named a Division I assistant coach this offseason. Former Commodore Chantelle Anderson was hired as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech on April 18.
