Season Series: Florida leads 3-1
No strangers to one another, Vanderbilt and Florida will meet again on Monday at 6 p.m. in Omaha, Neb. in both team’s second game of the College World Series. Vanderbilt and Florida each won CWS openers and the winner of tonight’s game will not play again until Friday. The loser will play on Wednesday.
Vanderbilt and Florida have met four times this season with Florida winning four of the meetings, including a 5-0 shutout in the SEC Tournament Championship game.
The pitching matchup for tonight will include Vanderbilt’s Grayson Garvin (13-1, 2.36 ERA) facing Karsten Whitson (8-0, 2.45 ERA). Garvin was the SEC Pitcher of the Year and Whitson was the SEC Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
Weather could be an issue on Monday night. The forecast is calling for 60% chance of rain and potential severe thunderstorms beginning this evening.
Not Garvin’s first CWS … kind of.
Grayson Garvin has been to Omaha before as a player, but just not on this stage. Garvin played in two little league tournaments that take place around the College World Series when he was 14 and 16 (2004 and 2006).
“I’ve been twice before when I was younger and the experience was unbelievable,” Garvin said. “It took a while to sink in that we are going to get a chance to play in the College World Series.”
