For at least two hours Friday, James Franklin has a new gig – sports talk radio co-host.
Vanderbilt’s first-year football head coach will join regular host George Plaster Friday for a two-hour segment on 104.5 The Zone’s “Sports Zone” Show. Subbing for Willy Daunic, Franklin will appear in-studio starting at 4 p.m.
“I’m pleased that George and Willy would even ask me to do it and I am glad to help them out,” Franklin said. “I’ve enjoyed some recent Vanderbilt baseball games, had a great time watching the Preds’ playoff push, and even caught a few NBA playoff games, so I guess I’m ready. I also know that George doesn’t need much help doing radio anyway.
“I plan to go have fun with it, talk about our team, and just let the listeners know how excited we are about the upcoming season,” Franklin added.

The two-hour segment also will include another Vanderbilt personality. Former Commodore center Will Perdue, the four-time NBA world champion with Chicago and San Antonio and current ESPN pro basketball commentator, joins the show weekly on Fridays to talk the latest in NBA action.
