The Intercollegiate Tennis Association honored Vanderbilt assistant women’s tennis coach Aleke Tsoubanos and freshman Alex Leatu earlier this week for their accomplishments this season.

For the second consecutive year, Tsoubanos was named the Ohio Valley Region Assistant Coach of the Year. In her fourth year as the assistant coach of her alma mater, Tsoubanos has helped the Commodores reach the NCAA Tournament in each of her years. She has played an essential role in bringing in top recruiting classes each year.

After posting a 17-15 record in her rookie season, Leatu was tabbed the Ohio Valley Player to Watch. Playing the majority of the season at the No. 1 singles position, the Littleton, Colo. native went 10-12 in dual matches. Leatu clinched four matches for the Commodores this spring, including Vanderbilt’s win over Alabama in the SEC Tournament.

With teammate Rachael Dillon, Leatu was selected to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championships at the end of this month. She was also selected as an alternate for the singles tournament.

The Commodores begin the NCAA Tournament Saturday, May 14 against Winthrop in Knoxville, Tenn.
