Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt pummeled Tennessee in a sweep over the weekend to improve to 38-5 on the year and 17-4 in the Southeastern Conference to remain in a three-way tie atop the league with South Carolina and Florida… The Commodores set a school record for runs scored in a SEC series outscoring UT 39-5 over the three games, including Sunday’s 19-3 win being the largest winning margin in the series since a 20-0 VU victory in 1899… The Dores opened the series with a 10-1 on Friday night led by starter Sonny Gray… The right-hander allowed one run on four hits over eight innings for his ninth win of the year… Mike Yastrzemski drove in three runs and Aaron Westlake scored three runs… Vanderbilt pounded out 17 hits in another 10-1 win on Saturday with Westlake going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs… Grayson Garvin picked up the win allowing one run across 5.2 innings… Vandy finished off the sweep of the Vols with Sunday’s historic 19-3 win… 11 different Commodores had at least one hit with the Dores posting season-bests in runs and hits (21)… Curt Casali knocked in four runs and Anthony Gomez had four hits to lead the way… Sam Lind hit his first home run as a Commodore and Connor Harrell blasted his second pinch-hit homer of the weekend… Taylor Hill was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst working six scoreless innings with six strikeouts for his fourth win… Jason Esposito extended his hitting streak to 24 games going 8-for-15 over the weekend and moved into sixth place in VU history with 53 doubles… Westlake moved into eighth place with 163 runs scored in his career… Monday night marks the fourth and final Coaches Show for Coach Tim Corbin at The Commodore Grill inside Holiday Inn-Vanderbilt.
