Chelsea Preeg and Alex Leatu of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team were named to the All-SEC Second Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

This is the second consecutive year Preeg has been named to the All-SEC Second Team. Currently ranked 90th in the nation by the ITA, the Naples, Fla. native posted a 25-13 overall record, with a 14-7 mark in dual matches. She won 11 consecutive matches from Jan. 29 to March 19, which included wins over the 59th, 79th and 82nd ranked players in the nation. Preeg was named SEC Player of the Week earlier this year after helping Vanderbilt defeat Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Currently ranked 62nd in the nation, Leatu posted a 17-15 record during her freshman campaign. Playing the majority of the season at the No. 1 singles position, the Littleton, Colo. native clinched four matches for the Commodores, including sealing Vanderbilt’s win over Alabama in the SEC Tournament.

Alabama picked up three of the individual awards, with Jenny Mainz earning Coach of the Year honors, while Mary Anne Macfarlane was named Freshman of the Year and Courtney McLane was recognized as Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Florida’s Allie Will was named the SEC Player of the Year. A four-way tie for the final spot on the second team pushed the team to a total of 14 members.

Vanderbilt is currently awaiting its draw for the 2011 NCAA Championships, which will be announced on Tuesday, May 3 at 4 p.m. CT.
