NASHVILLE – Freshman defender Brandi Byner has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Byner played an integral role in Vanderbilt’s 12-10 overtime victory over Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 20. The Franklin, Tenn., product controlled the opening draw of overtime which led to the Commodores’ eventual game-winning goal.
The Ensworth School graduate also caused one Fighting Irish turnover and picked up a ground ball in the game. Byner has started 14 of the Commodores’ 15 games during her first season in Black and Gold.
With the regular season concluded, the Commodores will play host to the 2011 ALC Tournament, May 5-7, at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
