WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior All-American Ally Carey has been nominated for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award, the nation’s pre-eminent collegiate lacrosse accolade. After establishing a watch list of 50 female student-athletes earlier this year, the Greater Washington Sports Alliance announced the nominee list of 24 women this week.
A native of Bel Air, Md., Carey leads the American Lacrosse Conference in caused turnovers and ground balls while also ranking among national leaders in draw controls. Only a junior, Carey ranks fourth all-time at Vanderbilt in career assists and seventh in career points.
Carey and the Commodores will close out the 2011 regular season on Wednesday, April 20, when Notre Dame visits the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex for a 1 p.m. CT opening draw. Prior to the game, Vanderbilt will honor its graduating senior class.
Vanderbilt also will play host to the this year’s ALC Tournament, May 5-7, on campus. In the most recent poll from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), all six teams in the ALC are ranked among the nation’s Top 20.
