The Vanderbilt men close their regular season this weekend when they head to the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga., for the 2011 SEC Men’s Championship this Friday through Sunday. Eighteen holes will be played each day with fixed tee times off of the number one and 10 tees.
The Southeastern Conference is once again one of the strongest golf conferences in the nation, sporting six of the nation’s top 25 teams. Vanderbilt head coach Tom Shaw explains that this week’s tournament will be his team’s toughest test of the season.
“It’s the toughest field we’ve faced all year, and our guys know that,” said Shaw. “They know what they have to do, and they are embracing the challenge. We’ve stepped up in situations like this in the past, and I believe we’ll do the same with this one.”
Vanderbilt finished 10th in last year’s SEC Championship, and were paced by then-senior Hudson Johnson, who tied for 16th place.
Vanderbilt will send senior Ryan Haselden, juniors Trey DelGreco and Adam Hofmann, and freshmen Mills Rendell and Jordan Janico.
