Thanks to Classic Hits 97.1 and local artist Michael Cooper, the portrait of Vanderbilt football head coach James Franklin now joins basketball coaches Kevin Stallings and Melanie Balcomb on the building at the corner of 28th and West End Avenues.

The flagship radio station of the Commodores agreed to fund the repainting, which is coming just in time for the Black & Gold game on Sunday, April 17. Franklin, Cooper, and 97.1 afternoon host Mike “Mac” McIntyre were on hand this afternoon to meet with the media.

The mural, originally painted in 1992, has been updated throughout the years to represent the current coaches at Vanderbilt. Cooper, of Murals & More, has been creating large-scale murals around Nashville since 1990.
