Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.
- A To Do list that tops cleaning your garage or hacking around the links:
- This weekend’s baseball series with Alabama, warm weather and big-time hardball. Enough said.
- The Black and Gold Football Game April 17 – you’ve asked for a real game and James Franklin is doing his part to provide one. Don’t forget the autograph session at 3:00 p.m., plan to tailgate and hang around for the post-game fireworks. Show up at 1 o’clock and watch our fine lacrosse team play. No admission charge
- Name dropping…Oak Ridge Boy Richard Sterban knows his baseball and has been doing color commentary of Vanderbilt’s non-conference games…bowling star Brittni Hamilton is the nation’s Female Amateur of the Year, which encompasses all bowlers, not just collegians …Ex-Commodore and 104.5 The Zone’s Willy Daunic will emcee next Monday’s Black & Gold Banquet, the annual student-athlete run awards event.
- The National Commodore Club continues to report an upward trend in membership with its Commodores on Board campaign. It will be significant if we can reach our goal of 1,000 additional members by May 30 and right now that appears very possible.
- If you are watching your home budget, don’t forget that by reordering your football season tickets before April 18 you will be buying at 2010 pricing. That chance goes after April 18.
