NASHVILLE – Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Pasfield has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in Vanderbilt’s 14-13 victory over Johns Hopkins Sunday.
The Alexandria, Va., native — making just her third start — stopped a career-best 10 JHU shots on Sunday. Seven of her saves came in the second half as Vanderbilt came back from a 9-7 deficit and held the Bluejays to only four goals in the final 30 minutes.
Since moving into the starting lineup, Pasfield has increased her save total each game while Vanderbilt has earned wins over No. 7 Stanford and ALC rival Johns Hopkins.
In other league news, Northwestern’s Kara Mupo earned her first ALC recognition as she was tabbed the conference’s Rookie of the Week, while Kitty Cullen from Florida was tabbed as the ALC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this year. Pasfield’s honor marks the second straight week that a Commodore has been recognized after Alyssa Dunlap was tabbed the Rookie of the Week last week.
Pasfield and the Commodores remain on the road this coming weekend to face another league foe, Ohio State. They will face the Buckeyes on Sunday, April 10, at 11 a.m. CT.
Vanderbilt then plays host to its final conference game against Florida on April 17 before its regular-season finale against Notre Dame on April 20. Senior Day festivities honoring the Commodores’ six-member senior class will precede the 1 p.m. draw of the game versus the Fighting Irish.
Next month, Vanderbilt welcomes all of its league rivals to Nashville for the 2011 American Lacrosse Conference Tournament, May 5-7, at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex on campus.
