WT set for Auburn, Alabama this weekend

The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team looks to snap a three match losing streak as it takes on two conference opponents this weekend. The Commodores travel to Auburn Friday afternoon before hosting Alabama Sunday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center.

The Commodores stand 8-5 on the season with a 2-3 record in SEC matches. Chelsea Preeg leads three players ranked in the latest ITA singles poll at 69th. Alex Leatu is ranked 91st and Rachael Dillon stands at 97th. Dillon and Leatu are the 63rd ranked doubles pair in the nation. Since dropping her first match of the season, Preeg has won 11 consecutive matches, playing in both the No. 3 and 2 position in the lineup. In doubles, Keilly Ulery and Lauren Mira hold a 10-3 record at the No. 3 spot.

Auburn is 4-11 on the season with an 0-4 mark in conference matches. All four of the Tigers wins have come on their home courts. Auburn snapped a seven-match losing streak last weekend with wins over Troy University and Boston University. The Tigers have won the past three matches against Vanderbilt.

Alabama, who hosts Kentucky on Friday, enters the weekend with a 7-5 overall record and is winless (0-3) in conference play. Ranked 54th in the nation, the Crimson Tide boasts four singles players ranked as well as a pair of doubles teams. Mary Anne Macfarlane leads the team, ranked at 32nd. Alexa Guarachi stands at 93rd, while Courtney McLane and Alex Clay are ranked 101st and 104th, respectively. The doubles pair of Guarachi and McLane is 12th in the nation while Antonia Foehse and Macfarlane are 58th.
