ATLANTA – The awards continue to come in for Vanderbilt senior guard Jence Rhoads, who on Wednesday was selected to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region 3 All-America team.
Rhoads is one of seven players on the Region 3 team and one of 52 players nationally to earn All-Region accolades by the WBCA. The list of 52 will be trimmed on Monday, March 21 to 40 finalists for the 10-person State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rhoads is the seventh player in school history to earn WBCA All-Region honors and the first since Christina Wirth in 2009. Rhoads leads Vanderbilt in scoring (11.9 per game), steals (1.07), assists (4.78) and average minutes played (35.4). Rhoads also ranks fourth on the team in rebounding (5.0).
An equation to determine the number of regional nominees is used to ensure a fair number of candidates from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to get a percentage for each region. Multiply 52 (the total number of desired finalists) by the percentage to get a number of finalists for each region.
The State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team for NCAA Division I will be announced at 9 a.m. ET Saturday, April 2, in Indianapolis during the WBCA National Convention, which is held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four®.
Vanderbilt will travel to Cincinnati on Friday in preparation for its first round NCAA Tournament game against Louisville at 11:10 a.m. CT on Sunday.
