Silinski on SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt senior forward Rebecca Silinski was recognized for her outstanding work in the community when she was recently selected as Vanderbilt’s representative on the 2011 SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Silinski is president of Vanderbilt’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been heavily involved in serving the Nashville and Vanderbilt community. Silinski has helped organize awareness games for Lyme disease and just this year helped the Commodores team up with World Vision Organization, which is dedicated to tackling poverty.

Silinski has also participated in the Gift of Life Walk for the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, Nashville Buddy Walk for the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee and Susan G. Komen Greater Nashville Race for the Cure. A 2010-11 team captain, Silinski has also volunteered at Vanderbilt’s Athletic Field Day for local children and at the Blakeford at Green Hills Nursing Home.

On campus, Silinski will graduate in May with degrees in political science and communication studies. She is a member of Fellowship of Christina Athletes Leadership Team, the Vanderbilt Dean’s List and the University Athletic Advisory Committee.

Silinski was selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and junior and is a member of Organizational Relations Committee of Vanderbilt Student Government.

This is the 13th year of the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team.

Vanderbilt will learn its postseason fate at 6 p.m. CT on Monday when the field of 64 is announced for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on ESPN.
