Nashville, Tenn, – Junior right-hander Sonny Gray has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Brown last Friday night at Hawkins Field.
Gray pitched his second career complete game in the win striking out a career-best 15 batters. He did not allow a hit in his first four innings and his last three, striking out at least one batter in ever inning along the way. Over his nine innings he did not issue a walk, also a career-first. Gray showed off his athleticism in a win over Western Kentucky on Tuesday scoring the winning run on a wild pitch to beat the Hilltoppers 6-5.
Gray takes the mound for the Commodores on Friday afternoon against Illinois-Chicago with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. Vanderbilt plays Wofford tomorrow at 4 p.m. and Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
